Product Details
Why choose theWilcox & Gibbs WG 815-DD?
It works with the shape of the cap. The post and rounded work area let you follow the curve instead of fighting it.
It is quiet. With the motor in the head and no clutch motor under the table, it suits salons, studios and rooms where clients are sitting nearby.
It goes as slowly as you need. Direct drive lets you creep forward a stitch at a time on the fiddly sections, then pick up speed on the long rows.
It is built for full days. This is an industrial machine, made to keep going when you have a stack of units to finish.
It arrives on its own table. Supplied with an industrial table and stand, so there is no separate bench or motor to source.
Who is it for?
The WG 815-DD is made for people who sew wigs and hairpieces regularly, including:
Professional wig makers producing units to order
Hair loss and hair replacement clinics
Salons and extension specialists bringing wig making in-house
Theatre, film and costume wig departments
Academies and colleges teaching wig construction
It is not a general sewing machine. If you need something for dressmaking, alterations or heavier fabrics, take a look at our industrial sewing machines or give us a call and we will point you to the right one.
Information
Sew wefts the way the cap actually sits
Anyone who has tried to sew wefts onto a wig cap on a flatbed machine knows the problem. The cap is round, the bed is flat, and you spend more time wrestling the work than sewing it.
The Wilcox & Gibbs WG 815-DD is built for that job. The needle sits on a raised post, so the cap stays in its natural shape and you sew row after row around the crown, sides and nape without flattening or bunching the lace. It is a working machine for wig makers, not a general machine adapted for the job.
It runs on a direct drive motor built into the head. That means no belt, very little noise and fine control at slow speed, which is exactly what you want when you are easing round a tight curve near the hairline.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What makes a post-bed machine better for wigs?
A flatbed machine expects the work to lie flat. A wig cap doesn't. The raised post lets the cap keep its shape while you sew, so your rows follow the curve neatly and the lace isn't stretched or creased.
What does direct drive actually mean?
The motor sits inside the machine head and drives it directly, with no belt. In practice that means a quieter machine, a smoother start and much finer control when you are working slowly.
Can I use it on lace and mesh caps?
Yes, that is what it is for. Match your needle and thread to the cap material and try a test row on an offcut first. If you are not sure what to use, ask us.
Could I use it for everyday sewing as well?
We wouldn't recommend it. It is designed for shaped work like wigs and hairpieces. For general sewing, a flatbed machine will serve you much better.
Which needles does it take?
The needle system is listed in the specification above. Always use the correct one, as the wrong needle can skip stitches and damage the hook.
Does it arrive ready to sew?
It comes with its table and stand. Some assembly may be needed on arrival, and we can talk you through installation options when you order.
Can you service it later on?
Yes. Our engineers service and repair industrial sewing machines in our London workshop.
Can I see it before I buy?
Of course. Come and see it at our showroom, 286 Streatham High Road, London. Give us a ring on 0208 769 2998 first so we can have it ready for you.
