Product Details
Why choose theWilcox & Gibbs GC0304D7/P?
Room to work is the obvious one. You get [X mm – confirm] of clearance under the arm, which makes a real difference on full sofa backs, mattress borders, awnings and rugs.
Then there's the feed. Because the needle, feed dog and walking foot all move together, top and bottom layers stay matched. That matters when you're sewing piping into vinyl, quilting through wadding or joining heavy canvas, where an ordinary machine tends to drag one layer ahead of the other.
And it's easy to live with day to day. The servo motor is quiet and only runs when you press the pedal. You can creep along a stitch at a time on a tricky corner, then open it up on a long straight seam. Set the needle to stop down and you can pivot without the work moving. When the seam's done, the trimmer cuts both threads under the plate, so there's no reaching for scissors.
Who is it for?
This machine suits upholsterers, equestrian and canvas makers, marine and automotive trimmers, and leather workshops sewing larger panels. It's also a sound choice for repair workshops that handle a wide mix of heavy items, and for colleges teaching upholstery.
It isn't the right tool for everything. If you mainly sew lightweight dressmaking fabrics, a standard industrial lockstitch will serve you better. And if your work is tubular – boots, bag gussets, sleeves – you'll want a cylinder arm machine. Not sure which camp you're in? Give us a call and we'll talk it through.
Information
If you've ever fought a sofa cover or a horse rug through a standard machine, you'll know the problem. The fabric piles up against the arm, the layers start to creep, and the seam ends up uneven. The Wilcox & Gibbs GC0304D7/P is designed to stop that.
Its long arm gives you far more room to the right of the needle, so large panels sit flat instead of bunching up. Underneath, a compound needle feed and walking foot move the material from above and below at the same time. Thick, slippery or multi-layered work goes through as one, and your stitches stay even from start to finish.
It's a workshop machine through and through. The automatic thread trimmer, needle positioning and digital control panel save you seconds on every seam, and over a working week those seconds add up.

Looking after your machine
- Keep it oiled as the manual shows and it will reward you. If it's working most days, we'd recommend a service once a year. Trimmers and compound feed mechanisms both run best when they're cleaned and adjusted regularly. Our engineers service and repair industrial machines in our London workshop.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What's the difference between a walking foot and a compound feed?
A walking foot pulls the top layer along while the feed dog moves the bottom. Compound feed goes a step further: the needle moves with the fabric too. All three working together is what keeps thick or slippery layers perfectly aligned.
Do I need a long arm?
If you regularly sew large items like sofa covers, horse rugs or tarpaulins, yes – the extra space saves a lot of wrestling. For smaller pieces, a standard-arm walking foot machine will do the job.
Will it sew leather?
Yes, it handles leather and leatherette panels well with the right needle and bonded thread. For bags and boots that need to go round the arm, a cylinder arm machine is the better fit.
How thick can it sew?
That depends on your material, needle and thread rather than one headline number. Tell us what you're sewing and we'll give you a straight answer.
Is it hard to use if I'm new to industrial machines?
Not if you're willing to learn. The servo motor lets you sew as slowly as you like, which takes the fear out of it. For light home sewing, though, a domestic machine makes more sense.
Is there a warranty?
12 Months Your statutory rights are not affected.
Can I see it before I buy?
Of course. Come and see it at 286 Streatham High Road, London. Call 0208 769 2998 first and we'll have it ready to demonstrate.
