Product Details
Why choose the DP-4AT?
Mostly because it does the job well without costing what the big names charge. It's a proper industrial machine for small manufacturers, alteration shops and serious home sewers who have outgrown a domestic overlocker but don't need a full production-line spec.
You're also buying it from people who know it. Call us before you order and we'll tell you honestly whether it suits your work. If it ever needs attention later, our London workshop repairs and services industrial overlockers.
Who is it for?
The DP-4AT is a good fit for:
● Clothing manufacturers and CMT units
● Small fashion labels moving from samples into their first production runs
● Alterations and tailoring shops
● Dressmakers and experienced home sewers who want industrial speed
● Schools, colleges and universities teaching fashion and textiles
● Theatre wardrobes and costume makers
It isn't the machine for denim, canvas, upholstery or leather. If your fabrics slip and shift, such as several layers, linings or fine stretch knits, a top feed overlocker like the Wilcox & Gibbs BX 8200T-4AT will give you a more even seam. Give us a call if you're not sure which one you need.
Information
If you finish a lot of seams, you want an overlocker you can sit down at every morning without thinking about it. The DP-4AT is that sort of machine.
It's a 4-thread industrial overlocker that trims, joins and neatens the edge in one pass. You get the strong, stretchy seam you'll find inside any T-shirt, jersey dress or lined skirt. It's built for light and medium-weight fabrics and for the long days of a working studio, which a domestic overlocker was never designed for.
The motor sits inside the machine head, so there's no belt and no motor hanging under the table. It's quiet, it stops the moment you lift your foot, and it only uses power while you're sewing. You can creep slowly round a curved neckline, then open it up on a long side seam.
It comes set up on its own industrial table and stand, and our engineers test every one before it leaves us.

Looking after your machine
- Industrial overlockers are hard-working machines, and they reward a little care. Check the oil before you start each day and use industrial sewing machine oil only. Brush the lint out of the loopers and knife area regularly. When stitches start skipping, the needle is usually the first thing to change.
- In regular use, a service once a year keeps it running sweetly. Our engineers do that in our London workshop. More about repairs and servicing.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What does a 4-thread overlocker actually do?
It sews the seam, trims off the excess fabric and wraps the raw edge, all at once. The fourth thread adds a second row of stitching, so the seam is strong enough to hold a garment together and not just tidy the edge.
Why go industrial rather than domestic?
A domestic overlocker is fine for occasional sewing. An industrial one is made to run for hours at a time, day after day, with heavier parts, a stronger motor and a stable table to work at. If you sew for a living, or near enough, you'll feel the difference.
What does direct drive mean?
The motor is built into the machine itself instead of sitting under the table and driving it with a belt. That makes it quieter, more economical and much more precise when you start and stop.
Will it sew jersey and stretch fabrics?
Yes, that's one of the main things it's for. The overlock stitch stretches with the fabric, and the differential feed helps stop knits waving. Run a test on a scrap first and adjust to suit.
Can it handle denim or upholstery fabric?
No, it's built for light to medium-weight fabrics. If you work with heavier materials, ring us and we'll point you to something better suited.
I've never used an industrial machine. Will I cope?
You'll be fine, but take it steady to begin with. Industrial machines are quick, so start on a low speed setting until you're comfortable. We're happy to talk you through threading and set-up.
Can I come and see it first?
Of course. We're at 286 Streatham High Road, London. Give us a ring on 0208 769 2998 so we can have it ready for you.
