Product Details
Why choose the Suote ST-781?
It looks like the real thing. Because the thread passes fully through the fabric, the finish has the depth and character of hand pick stitching. Customers see quality, not shortcuts.
It gives you your time back. Edge finishing that would tie up a skilled hand for a long stretch is done in a fraction of the time, freeing your best people for the work only they can do.
Every jacket matches the last. Stitch size and spacing stay even across a whole production run, whoever is at the machine.
You stay in control. Stitch length is set from the electronic control panel, so switching between a fine dress finish and a bolder casual one takes seconds. [CONFIRM: whether visible and hidden stitch lengths are set separately]
It is built on a design the trade trusts. The 781 format is the most widely used hand-stitch machine in the world, which means needles, parts and know-how are easy to come by.
You are not on your own. We test every machine before it leaves us, talk you through set-up, and look after servicing and repairs in our London workshop for customers right across the UK.
Who is it for?
The ST-781 earns its place anywhere tailored garments are made in numbers:
● Suit and jacket manufacturers finishing lapels, collars and front edges
● Bespoke and made-to-measure houses that want a hand finish at higher volume
● Coat and outerwear makers adding detail to edges and pockets
● Ladieswear and luxury labels using decorative edge stitching on tailored pieces
● Fashion colleges and universities teaching tailoring and production methods
It is a specialist finishing machine, so it is not designed for general seaming or home sewing. If that is what you need, have a look at our industrial lockstitch machines, or give us a call and we will point you in the right direction.
Information
Every tailor knows the detail that separates a good jacket from a great one: that fine line of pick stitching running along the lapel, collar and front edge. It tells the customer the garment was made with care. It also takes a skilled finisher a long time to sew by hand.
The Suote ST-781 does that job for you. It is an electronic hand-stitch machine built on the well-proven 781 design, and it sews a stitch that looks hand-made because, mechanically, it is made the same way. The thread travels right through the cloth from top to bottom and back again, exactly as it would on a hand needle. The result is a soft, slightly raised stitch on the face of the garment, not the flat line of a machine topstitch.
It arrives as a complete workstation on an industrial table and stand, so it is ready to take its place in your workroom.

Looking after your machine
- Keep it oiled as the manual sets out, brush away thread and fabric dust from around the needle at the end of each day, and change the needle at the first sign of wear. A tired needle is the number one cause of missed stitches on hand-stitch machines.
- In regular production we recommend a full service at least once a year. Our engineers repair and service industrial machines in our London workshop. Find out about repairs and servicing.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What exactly is a hand-stitch machine?
It is a specialist industrial machine that recreates the look of hand pick stitching. The thread goes all the way through the fabric on every stitch, so the finish looks sewn by hand, not topstitched by machine.
Where would I use pick stitching?
Mostly on the lapels, collars and front edges of tailored jackets and coats. It keeps the layers lying flat and gives the garment that unmistakable mark of quality.
Is this a Complett machine?
No. The ST-781 is made by Suote and follows the established 781 hand-stitch design. It is sold and supported by Talash Sewing Centre.
Why does it need re-threading?
Because it sews the way a hand needle does, with a cut length of thread. When that length is used up, you re-thread. Every 781-type machine works like this.
Will it handle lapel points and curves?
Yes. The needle positioning motor lets you stop with the needle down, pivot and carry on, so corners stay crisp.
Do I need an air compressor?
Yes, not included.
Can I see one before I buy?
Of course. Come and see us at 286 Streatham High Road, London. Please call 0208 769 2998 first so we can have the machine ready for you.
Is it hard to learn?
It takes a little getting used to if you have only ever run lockstitch machines, but experienced operators usually pick it up quickly. We will happily walk you through it.
Can you service and repair it?
Yes. Our engineers service and repair industrial machines in our London workshop
What warranty do I get?
12 months.
