Why choose the Bernina 950?
If your work changes from one garment to the next, a straight-stitch industrial will only get you so far. The 950 lets you sew a seam, neaten the edge, put in a zip and finish with a buttonhole on one machine, at industrial speed.
It is fully mechanical, with no circuit boards or screens. You set the stitch on the dials and it sews. The knee lifter raises the presser foot for you, so both hands stay on the fabric. That makes a real difference on long seams and fiddly corners.
If you already own Bernina presser feet, many of them will fit. Tell us which ones you have and we will check for you.
Who is it for?
The 950 is a good fit for dressmakers and bridalwear studios, alteration and tailoring shops, and theatre and costume departments. It also works well for curtain and soft furnishing makers who sew long runs in light to medium fabrics. Schools, colleges and universities like it because it is simple to teach on and built to last. For home sewers who have outgrown a domestic machine, it is a natural step up.

Most industrial machines do one job very well. The Bernina 950 was built to do several. It gives you the speed of an industrial machine, up to 2,000 stitches a minute, together with the range of stitches you would expect from a good Bernina: zigzag, blind hem, edge finishing, decorative stitches and a proper buttonhole.
The machine we have is new and has never been used. It comes set up on an industrial table with its motor, stand and pedal, so you can start sewing as soon as it arrives.

Looking after your machine
- The 950 has no oil pan, but that does not mean it looks after itself. If you sew every day, put a drop of oil on the hook each day, and follow the oiling points in the manual. An annual service will keep it running well for years. Our engineers service and repair Bernina machines in our London workshop.

Is the Bernina 950 a domestic or an industrial machine?
It is an industrial machine, sometimes called semi-industrial. It runs on an industrial table and motor at up to 2,000 stitches a minute, but its stitch range is closer to a high-end domestic Bernina.
Will it sew upholstery or leather?
It does its best work on light to medium fabrics. For heavy upholstery, leather or thick layers, a walking foot machine is the better choice. Give us a call and we will suggest one.
Does it arrive ready to use?
Yes. It comes mounted on its table with the motor, stand, pedal and knee lifter fitted.
Which needles does it take?
The 287WH system. Using the wrong needles can cause skipped stitches and may damage the hook, so it is worth getting this right.
Can it sew buttonholes?
Yes. It has a built-in 5-step buttonhole, and the buttonhole foot is included.
Does it need oiling?
Yes. There is no oil pan, but the hook and moving parts need regular oiling. The manual shows you where.
Will my existing Bernina feet fit?
Many will. Tell us which feet you have and we will confirm before you buy.
