Product Details
Why choose the M-Tech Smart MTS-2972 Industrial?
It goes where flatbed machines can't. Boot shafts, shoe uppers, bag gussets, handbag handles. If it's closed, curved or tubular, the cylinder arm gets inside it.
You never have to turn the work. The feed comes from above and swivels a full 360°, so a curved patch or a toe-cap repair is one smooth seam instead of a dozen stops and starts.
It's a design that's been trusted for generations. Because it follows the Singer 29K layout, it works in a way repairers already know, and needles and common parts are easy to find.
It leaves the leather clean. There are no feed dogs underneath, so the inside of the shoe isn't marked or scuffed as you sew.
You're buying from people who fix machines. Our engineers test it before it leaves us, we're on the phone if you get stuck, and our London workshop can service it for years to come.

Information
Walk into almost any shoe repair shop and you'll find a patcher in the corner. The design was perfected by Singer with the 29K, and it has hardly changed since, because it does one job better than anything else: getting a needle into places a normal sewing machine simply can't reach.
The M-Tech Smart MTS-2972 follows that same design. Slide a boot over the long, slim arm and you can stitch right down into the toe. Turn the feed and the machine sews sideways, backwards or round in a circle, so you follow the shape of the repair rather than wrestling the boot around the needle.
It comes as a head for hand operation, which is how most cobblers still prefer to patch. You're in full control of every stitch, there's no motor to run away from you on an expensive pair of shoes, and you don't need a plug socket. If your workload grows, it can go on a table with a servo motor later.

Looking after your machine
- A patcher will run for decades if you treat it well. Give it a few drops of industrial sewing machine oil at the points shown in the manual before each working day, brush out leather dust and fluff from around the shuttle, and change the needle the moment stitches start to skip.
- In regular use, we'd recommend a service once a year. Our engineers repair and service patchers in our London workshop. Find out about repairs and servicing.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What exactly is a boot patcher?
It's a sewing machine with a long, narrow arm and a feed you can steer in any direction. That combination lets you sew inside shoes, boots and bags, which is why it's the standard machine in shoe repair shops.
Can it really sew in any direction?
Yes. Turn the feed control and the machine sews forwards, sideways or in a full circle while the boot stays where it is.
Do I need electricity?
No. It's supplied for hand operation, so you can use it anywhere. If you'd like powered sewing later, it can be fitted to a table with a servo motor.
How thick can it sew?
It's built for shoe uppers, soft leather and canvas rather than thick saddlery leather or belts. If you're not sure, tell us what you'll be sewing and we'll give you a straight answer.
Is it a Singer?
No. It's made by M-Tech Smart and follows the Singer 29K design, so it works in the same way.
Can I see one before I buy?
Of course. Pop into our shop at 286 Streatham High Road, London. Call 0208 769 2998 first and we'll make sure one is set up for you to try.
Can you repair it if anything goes wrong?
Yes. Our engineers service and repair patchers in our London workshop.
How often does it need oiling?
A few drops before each working day, at the points shown in the manual, using industrial sewing machine oil.
Do your machines require installation?
Industrial machines often require setup, calibration and proper configuration. Professional installation is strongly recommended to ensure correct operation and long-term performance.
Does it come with a table and motor?
No, this is the machine head only. We can supply a table, stand and motor separately.
I'm new to shoe repair. Is this a good machine to learn on?
It's a great place to start. Hand cranking is slow and forgiving, so you can learn at your own pace. If you'd like a few pointers, we're happy to talk you through the basics.
