Product Details
Why choose the KL 9982?
It feeds properly. Leather and layered materials like to creep as you sew, especially on a curve. The KL 9982 grips the work from three directions at once: the needles travel with the material, a driven roller pulls from underneath and a top roller drives from above. Layers stay together and stitches stay even.
Two rows in one pass. No second run through the machine, and no wandering gap between rows. The spacing on your last piece matches the first.
Quiet, precise control. The servo motor is built into the machine, so there's no belt to slip or adjust, and it only runs when you press the pedal. Needle positioning means you can stop with the needles down, lift the roller and pivot round a corner without losing your line.
Cleaner finished work. Semi-automatic lubrication helps keep oil inside the machine rather than on a pale leather upper.
Proper support behind it. Talk your work through with one of our specialists before you buy, and when the machine needs attention, our own engineers can service it.
Who is it for?
The KL 9982 is at home in footwear workshops sewing uppers and boots, and with bag and leather goods makers producing handbags, wallets, belts and straps. Upholstery and trim workshops use twin-needle post bed machines for decorative top-stitching on shaped panels, and it's a sound choice for colleges and training workshops teaching footwear and leather goods. If you're running production and need the same tidy twin seam on every piece, it earns its place quickly.
It isn't the machine for very thick leather, harness work or heavy webbing. For that, you'll want a heavy-duty walking foot or cylinder arm machine – see our industrial range or give us a call and we'll point you to the right one.
Information
Some seams simply won't lie flat. A boot shaft, the curved side of a handbag, a shoe upper that's already taking shape – on a flatbed machine you spend more time wrestling the work than sewing it. The KL 9982 is built for exactly these jobs.
Its raised post lets you get inside shaped and tubular items and steer smoothly round tight curves, while two needles lay down perfectly parallel rows of stitching in a single pass. It's the kind of neat double-row finish customers notice on good footwear and leather goods.

Looking after your machine
- Keep an eye on the oil level and clear lint and leather dust from the hook, rollers and post regularly – a few minutes at the end of the day makes a real difference. Always use the correct needle system for this machine. When it's due a service, our engineers repair and service industrial machines in our London workshop.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
What's a post bed machine actually for?
The raised post lets you sew items that are already three-dimensional – shoe uppers, boots, bags – and guide them round curves that would bunch up on a flatbed.
What does triple feed mean in practice?
The needles, a roller underneath and a roller on top all move the material together. That stops layers slipping against each other, which is exactly what goes wrong on leather and curved seams with a basic feed.
Will it handle heavy leather?
It's designed for light to medium-weight materials. If you're sewing thick leather, harness or heavy webbing, call us and we'll recommend something with more muscle.
Can I use it for upholstery?
Yes, for twin-needle decorative top-stitching on panels within its weight range. It's not meant for heavy, multi-layer upholstery seams.
Is it loud?
Far less than an old clutch motor. The servo only runs while you're sewing, so there's no constant hum between seams.
Will it be ready to sew when it arrives?
It comes with its motor, table and stand, though some set-up is needed on arrival. We can arrange installation on selected machines.
Do you service post bed machines?
We do. Our engineers repair and service domestic and industrial sewing machines in our London workshop.
Can I see it first?
Of course. Come and see it at our showroom, 286 Streatham High Road, London, or call 0208 769 2998 to talk through your work with a specialist.
