Product Details
Why choose the Janome Memory Craft 9480 QC?
The space makes the difference. 280 x 120mm to the right of the needle, plus an extension table, gives a large quilt somewhere to sit while you work. Less pushing and bunching means straighter lines and less strain on your shoulders.
Layers stay where you put them. AcuFeed Flex works with the 7-piece feed dogs to grip fabric from above and below. It is the best answer we know of to puckered backs and mismatched seams, and it clips off when you don't need it.
Free-motion that looks even. The A.S.R. reads how fast you move the fabric and adjusts the needle to match, so your stitches stay a consistent length. A ruler work foot is included for anyone who likes to quilt with templates.
Accurate piecing from the start. The HP professional foot and straight-stitch needle plates are made for precise ¼" seams. When every block matches, the whole quilt goes together more easily.
Both hands stay on the fabric. The knee lifter, automatic presser foot lift, auto-pivot and automatic thread cutter take care of the small jobs, so you can keep guiding the work.
Who is it for?
The 9480 QC is at its best with quilters working on bed-sized projects who want more space and control without moving to a frame-mounted longarm. It is also a strong choice for experienced sewists stepping up from a mid-range machine who want one machine for quilting and garments.
Ruler work and free-motion quilters will appreciate the A.S.R. and the ruler foot. Teaching studios, colleges and quilting groups will find it capable and dependable enough to share.
If you are new to sewing, this is probably more machine than you need right now. Give us a call and we will point you to something that suits you better. And if you want to embroider as well, the 9480 QC doesn't do that, but we can recommend a model that does.
Information
Anyone who has wrestled a double quilt through a standard machine knows the problem: not enough space, layers creeping out of line, and free-motion stitches that vary every time you speed up. The Janome Memory Craft 9480 QC Professional is built to deal with all three.
You get 280mm of space to the right of the needle, so a rolled quilt fits under the arm without a fight. Janome's AcuFeed Flex system feeds the top layer at the same rate as the bottom, so seams and quilt sandwiches stay lined up. And for free-motion work, the A.S.R. stitch regulator keeps your stitch length even, whether you move the fabric quickly or slowly.
It is just as capable away from the quilt. With 400 stitches, 11 buttonholes and a 9mm stitch width, it will happily take on dressmaking, home furnishings and decorative work too.

Looking after your machine
- Always switch off and unplug the machine before cleaning or changing needles, feet or needle plates.
- Brush lint out of the bobbin area and feed dogs regularly. After a large quilt, give it a clean before you start the next project.
- Use the brush supplied rather than compressed air, which can push lint further inside the machine.
- Change the needle at the start of every new project, or sooner if it bends, blunts or starts skipping stitches.
- Match the needle to your fabric and thread, for example a quilting needle for piecing and quilting through layers.
- Use the Janome bobbins made for this machine. Other bobbins can look similar but may cause tension problems.
- Use good-quality thread. Cheap thread sheds more lint and breaks more often.
- Only oil the machine if the instruction book tells you to, and only in the places it shows.
- Keep the cover on when the machine is not in use to keep dust out.
- Store and use it away from damp, direct sunlight and heaters.
- Have it professionally serviced regularly. If you notice new noises, skipped stitches or tension problems, book a service sooner.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
Is this a longarm quilting machine?
No. It is a domestic machine with a generous 280mm workspace. You can quilt full-size quilts on it at a table, but it doesn't sit on a quilting frame the way a longarm does.
Does the A.S.R. come with it?
Yes. The UK model includes the A.S.R. and its free-motion quilting feet, so you can start straight away
What does AcuFeed Flex actually do?
It feeds the top layer of fabric at the same speed as the bottom. That stops quilt layers shifting and helps with slippery or tricky fabrics like velvet, and with matching stripes.
How does it compare with the 9410 QC?
Both have the same workspace and stitch width. The 9480 QC adds 100 more stitches, more feet and needle plates as standard, AcuFeed Flex and the HP foot in the box, a retractable sewing light, AcuSpark 2 app support and A.S.R. compatibility.
Is it any good for dressmaking?
Very. The buttonholes, blind hem foot, rolled hem foot, zipper foot and precise topstitching make it a capable garment machine as well.
Can I do ruler work?
Yes. A ruler work foot is included. Use rulers made for domestic machines, which are 6mm thick.
Do you service Janome machines?
Yes. We service and repair domestic sewing machines in our London workshop.
Which presser feet fit?
Janome Category D feet, made for 9mm machines.
Can I try it before I buy?
Of course. Call 0208 769 2998 to arrange a visit to our shop at 286 Streatham High Road, London.
How much space does it need?
It weighs about 13.7kg, so it needs a sturdy, level table. A larger table also helps support the weight of a quilt as you sew.
Would you recommend it for a beginner?
It is easy to use, but it is priced and specified for experienced sewists. Most beginners will get on better with a simpler machine. We will always give you an honest steer.
