Product Details
Why choose theJanome Memory Craft 6700P?
It's quick, but it stays in control. 1,200 stitches per minute gets long seams done in a fraction of the time. When you need to slow down for curves or corners, a speed slider lets you set a comfortable top speed.
Layers stay where you put them. Janome's AcuFeed Flex system feeds the top layer of fabric in step with the bottom, so quilt sandwiches don't creep and stripes and checks line up. It clips off when you don't need it.
The straight stitch is the real star. Swap to the professional grade HP needle plate and foot (one push, no screwdriver) and you get the kind of crisp, precise straight stitch that makes piecing and fine dressmaking a pleasure.
Your hands stay on the fabric. The knee lifter raises the presser foot while you turn the work, and the automatic thread cutter trims both threads at the touch of a button. Small things, but they add up over a long sewing day.
No menus to fight with. Stitches are picked straight from the keypad, and the 3.6" screen shows exactly what you've selected. It's a machine you can learn quickly and get on with.
Who is it for?
The 6700P suits people who sew a lot and want a machine that keeps up with them.
● Quilters who want speed, space and even feeding without paying for a top-of-the-range model
● Dressmakers who care about a beautiful straight stitch on everything from silk to denim
● Anyone making curtains, cushions, bags or other soft furnishings
● Small makers and studio sewists who've outgrown a standard home machine
● Sewists stepping up from an entry-level or mechanical machine
● Schools, colleges and textile departments that need a sturdy, easy-to-learn machine
Not sure it's the right one? If you'd like a stitch regulator and more workspace, the Janome Continental M8 Professional may suit you better. If you're sewing leather or upholstery all day, an industrial walking foot machine will serve you longer. Give us a call on 0208 769 2998. We'd rather help you pick the right machine than sell you the wrong one.
Information
Some machines are built to do a bit of everything. The Janome Memory Craft 6700P is built to sew, and to sew well. Fast, straight, even stitching, seam after seam, on a solid aluminium flatbed that stays steady at full speed.
It runs at up to 1,200 stitches per minute. Janome calls it one of the fastest top-loading bobbin machines on the market, and you feel it the first time you put your foot down on a long quilt seam or a pair of curtains. There's 255mm (10") of space to the right of the needle, so bigger projects slide through instead of bunching up against the machine.
This is a sewing and quilting machine, not an embroidery machine. Everything about it is focused on construction, piecing and quilting, and that focus is what makes it so good at them.

Looking after your machine
- Switch off and unplug the machine before cleaning it or changing the needle
- Brush away lint from the feed dogs and bobbin area regularly, especially after quilting or sewing fleece and wadding
- Change the needle every 8 hours or so of sewing, or straight away if it's bent, blunt or skipping stitches
- Match the needle to the fabric: fine needles for silks and lawns, heavier needles for denim and canvas
- Use good-quality thread. Cheap thread sheds more lint and can cause tension problems
- Use genuine Janome bobbins made for this machine
- Don't use compressed air. It can push lint deeper into the machine
- Only oil the machine if the instruction manual tells you to, and only where it shows
- Keep the dust cover on when you're not sewing
- Store the machine somewhere dry, away from direct sunlight and radiators
- Have it professionally serviced regularly. If you sew most days, once a year is a good guide
- Due a service? We service and repair Janome machines in our London workshop. Call 0208 769 2998 to book.

Delivery, Installation & Returns
Can the 6700P embroider?
No. It's a dedicated sewing and quilting machine. You can sew simple names and monograms with the 5 built-in alphabets, but there's no embroidery unit.
Is it an industrial machine?
No, although it's quicker and sturdier than most home machines. It's ideal for heavy home use and small-batch making. If you're running a production line all day, an industrial machine is the better investment, and we're happy to advise.
Does it have a free arm?
No. It's a flatbed machine, which gives you a large, steady surface for quilting and big projects. The trade-off is that small tubes like sleeve hems and cuffs are fiddlier to sew than on a free-arm machine.
Will it handle denim and canvas?
Yes, within the limits of a home machine. AcuFeed Flex and adjustable foot pressure help it cope well with heavy and layered fabrics. For daily leather or upholstery work, you'll want an industrial walking foot machine.
Can I free-motion quilt on it?
Yes. Drop the feed dogs, fit the free-motion quilting foot that comes in the box, and away you go. It doesn't have a stitch regulator. If that matters to you, take a look at the Janome Continental M8 Professional.
What does AcuFeed Flex actually do?
It's Janome's built-in walking foot. It grips the top layer of fabric and moves it at the same rate as the feed dogs underneath, so layers don't slip or stretch. Brilliant for quilts, stripes, checks and slippery fabrics.
Can I try it before I buy?
Of course. Call 0208 769 2998 to arrange a visit to our shop at 286 Streatham High Road, London.
Do you service Janome machines?
Yes. We service and repair domestic sewing machines in our London workshop.
What's the HP needle plate for?
It has a single small needle hole instead of a wide slot. Paired with the HP foot, it holds the fabric firmly around the needle for a very straight, even stitch, especially on fine fabrics and when piecing accurately.
Which bobbins does it take?
It has a top-loading full rotary hook. We recommend genuine Janome bobbins made for this machine. If you're not sure which ones, just ask.
Is it a good choice for a beginner?
The controls are simple, so a confident beginner will get on fine. That said, it really comes into its own in experienced hands. If you're just starting out, call us and we'll point you to the machine that fits.
